Free pop-up Broadway performances are coming to NYC this week

Starting on Tuesday, August 23, a non-profit organization, NY Forever, will host live midday Broadway performances. The four-day series of pop-up concerts will take place across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. This initiative, known as Broadway Forever, aims to honor New Yorker City performers and their contributions to the city.

Four Broadway stars, including Tony nominee Shoshana Bean, Jelani Remy, Ashley de la Rosa, and Tony winner Matt Doyle, will perform at plazas throughout the city. Everyone is invited to enjoy the concerts – no tickets or reservations are needed. 

Here is the schedule:

- Manhattan: Tuesday, August 23, Cooper Square Plaza (starring Shoshana Bean)

- Queens: Wednesday, August 24, Diversity Plaza (starring Jelani Remy)

- Manhattan: Thursday, August 25, 3:30 pm, Quisqueya Plaza (starring Ashley de la Rosa)

- Brooklyn: Friday, August 26, 3:30 pm, Albee Square (starring Matt Doyle)

“NY Forever celebrates the contributions of all New Yorkers who make this the most dynamic, diverse, and entertaining city in the world. Performing artists work tirelessly to hone and share their craft," said Richard Mumby, founding board member of NY Forever.

Broadway plays a significant role in the New York City economy. In the 2018-2019 season, 14.7 million people enjoyed the iconic Broadway plays and musicals, grossing over $1.8 billion, according to the data provided by Baruch College. For the free pop-up Broadway concerts, NY Forever teamed up with City National Bank and the New York City Department of Transportation.
