New York Magazine: "Why New York Can’t Have Nice Things. It costs three times more to build a subway station here than in London or Paris. What if we could change that?"
New York has the world’s most expensive subway, yet it is not accessible, convenient, or practical. By the first half of 2022, London is expecting to open Crossrail. It is a railway project that offers a commute from eastern and western suburbs to central London. Similar subway systems already exist in Paris and Berlin.
Unlike its peer cities, New York cannot expect to build a similar project any time soon due to extremely high construction costs and extensive delays. According to the New York Magazine, the city spends $425 million per station. At the same time, Paris spends $168 million and Madrid only $14 million.
Josh Barro talks in-depth about why the NYC subway costs so much money and how we could lower its expenses in the New York Magazine article, “Why New York Can’t Have Nice Things.” Follow the link to read the full story.
