The construction of the thinnest building in the world completes in Manhattan

by Verus Real Estate

New York City has become a home to the world's thinnest supertall tower. The tower at 111 West 57th Street is the second tallest building in North and South America. But it can only accommodate one unit per floor.

The new building, designed by SHop Architects, is 1,428 feet tall and has a height-to-width ratio of 24:1, which makes it the thinnest skyscraper in the world. The company used terra-cotta to create the unique façade of the building. According to 6sqft, terra-cotta is an ancient clay-based material that was used in the construction of the Flatiron Building, the Plaza Hotel, and Alwyn Court.

The supertall tower offers 46 condos, one per floor, and 14 units in the nearby restored Steinway Hall building. The construction of the project began in 2014, and now the supertall tower, which overlooks Central Park, is waiting for residents to move in.

"Any preconceived notions that our team had about skyscrapers of New York City developments were replaced with an opportunity to do something that had never been done before," Gregg Pasquarelli, founding principal at SHoP Architects, told Dezeen. "As New Yorkers, we are incredibly proud to add a new icon to our skyline."

According to the New York YIMBY, the tower features an 82-foot-long swimming pool, double-height fitness center with a terrace, paddle court, private dining room, meeting rooms, concierge service, and more.

The Corcoran Group is handling the marketing and sales of residential units. One unit has already been sold for $26.7 million. Currently, the least expensive unit in the building is on the market for $7.7 million, and the most expensive is asking $66 million. Check out verusnyc.com for more listings!
