Step inside a $27 million French villa frequented by Pablo Picasso
The South of France has always been especially popular among artists looking for inspiration and quaint hideaways. From Impressionists to Surrealists, this region has lured many remarkable creatives with its beautiful landscapes, scenic water views, and gentle climate. One of these influential artists was Pablo Picasso. Almost a hundred years later, his beloved French villa is listed for sale.
Built in 1912, this surreal waterfront mansion sits near Cap d’Antibes, one of the most exclusive places on the Riviera. According to the listing, Pablo Picasso stayed in this villa multiple times. Rumor has it that during one of his visits, Picasso painted the walls in the salons and bedrooms as a way to thank his hosts. Unfortunately, the walls were later repainted by the owner. Other notable guests include F Scott Fitzgerald, Estée Lauder, Charlie Chaplin, and Jean Cocteau.

The 8-bedroom, 6-bathroom seaside home is known as Villa La Vigie, which means “the lookout”. “Many villas in the area can claim a visit by Picasso, but he mentions La Vigie himself in his diaries from that time,” Jack Harris of Knight Frank in London told Robb Report.
Inside, you will find a formal dining room, a game room, and a wine cellar. The main bedroom comes with an en-suite bathroom and a private lounge with breathtaking views. The spectacular outdoor space includes a double infinity pool, al-fresco dining with a grill, a roof terrace, and parking for five cars. The villa sits next to lush French Riviera gardens and overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.

The iconic 20th-century mansion is set directly on the water. There is also a boat dock and a boat house nearby. This unique Neo-Gothic gem hit the market for $27 million via the international real estate agency Knight Frank. The villa even has its own website with a detailed history and a virtual tour.
