The 18th-century castle from Netflix’s “The Empress” is available on Airbnb

by Verus Real Estate

The latest Netflix series, The Empress, has everything you could look for in a period drama: beautiful gowns, endless gardens, and an impressive palace, which is up for grabs on Airbnb. The short-term rental website invites guests to travel back in time and spend one day in a royal castle.

Weissenstein Palace appeared in the first season of a well-received show, The Empress, and has become one of the most iconic filming locations. For six episodes, it served as the residence of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sissi). And now, it opens its doors to anyone who wants to live like royalty.

“Empress Elizabeth, fondly nicknamed Sisi, is an all-time favourite historical figure: a sportswoman, fashion icon, traveller, poet and tragic heroine who fell to an assassin’s blade,” said Countess Benedicta von Schönborn-Wiesentheid, host of this unique stay. “As she was born in Bavaria, it’s both exciting and fitting to bring this legendary woman home and share a little glimpse into her world.”

Four lucky guests will stay in the real-life royal palace, which is located in Pommersfelden, Germany. Since its construction in the 18th century, the castle has belonged to the House of Schönborn. According to the listing, the private room, which is available for booking on Airbnb, could be found in the west wing of the palace. Usually, only members of the Schönborn family have been allowed to stay there.

The Bavarian castle offers two one-night stays for two guests. The booking includes an exclusive tour of the palace and a Sisi’s inspired dinner and breakfast. The booking will open on November 2 at 1 p.m. EDT, right in time to celebrate the 185th birthday of Empress Elizabeth. There are two available dates: June 19 and June 20, 2023.

The first season of The Empress was released on September 29, 2022. The Netflix series follows the early life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (portrayed by Devrim Lingnau) and Emperor Franz Joseph (played by Philip Froissant). As with most period dramas, the show mixes historical events with fiction to make it more appealing to the viewers.
